Installing MoinMoin Wiki on a Ubuntu VServer with Plesk
I just spent a day getting MoinMoin Wiki to run my vserver. Since I had rather spent this time otherwise and I assume the same holds for you too, I give you a step-by-step tutorial about how to get it running quickly. If you have root access to a vserver running plesk and want to install the wiki for one or more domains hosted on that server, these instructions are right for you!

Dresden Soul Symphony bringt auch die Mutti zum swingen
Dieses Wochenende verschlug es mich spontan auf folgendes Konzert:
Die “Dresden Soul Symphony”, das wohl mutigste musikalische Experiment in der Geschichte des MDR hat am Wochenende seine Premiere gefeiert. Vier international renommierte Sänger, die im Soul und R’n'B zu Hause sind, eine vierköpfige Band und das 130-köpfige MDR-Sinfonieorchester unter der Leitung von Jun Märkl – da trafen Welten aufeinander. Sensationell, wie diese beiden musikalisch so verschiedenen Welten miteinander harmonierten.
Mehr als 20 Songs aus den besten Jahren der Soul-Ära spielen Band und Orchester. Die vier Sänger wechseln sich ab. Joy überzeugt bei Klassikern wie “This is a man’s world”, Bilal gibt den Entertainer und schmettert die Up-Tempo-Nummern. Dweles soulige Stimme glänzt bei ruhigen Songs wie “Take me to the river”. Und Tweet erzeugt, wann immer sie zum Mikro greift, eine Gänsehaut. (Quelle: Mdr Sputnik)
Man ist ja inzwischen gegenüber übertriebenen Marketingtexten abgestumpft. In diesem Fall stimmt ausnahmsweise jeder Satz! Jetzt bin ich froh, dieses Konzert nicht verpasst zu haben. Wer etwas mit Soul/Funk anfangen kann, sollte sich die im August erscheinende CD oder DVD des Konzertes vormerken.
Ps. Hat jemand die Liveübertragung im MDR Sputnik mitgeschnitten und kann sie mir zu Verfügung stellen?

Ausgehtipp: Panoptikum im Krystallpalast Leipzig
Direkt in Leipzigs Innenstadt befindet sich das Krystallpalast Varieté Leipzig. Dort wird noch bis zum 5.7.08 eine Show gezeigt, die ich jedem empfehlen kann. Sie heißt “Panoptikum”, kommt komplett ohne Sprache aus und ist doch erfrischend lustig. Für Studenten gilt folgendes Angebot: gibt es 15min vor Veranstaltungsbeginn noch Restkarten (anrufen!), kommt man für unschlagbare 5€ rein. Hingehen!

How to plot a single graph from multiple files using Gnuplot
Assume you have a lot of data files where any line in each of those files refers to a common entity. If you don’t want to merge the files by hand you can directly plot them from inside Gnuplot using a pipe:
plot '< paste FILE1.dat FILE2.dat' using 2:4
In the example, both files have two columns and we relate the second column of each file. Generally, write “using [column index in first file]:[number of columns in first file + column index in second file]“.

How to get an entry out of a tab delimited file
Insert the following function into your .bashrc:
# Function that gets a column and row from a tab separated file
tableEntry()
{
sed -n "$1p" $3 | awk '{print $'$2'}'
}
You are then able to write
tableEntry 2 5 file.txt
to get the 2nd row and 5th column from any file.

Deploying webapps has just become easy
Remember the time when creating web applications was tedious and involved thousands of lines php code? Ruby on Rails was the first popular framework that strongly simplified this process. Releasing the webapp, however, is still sophisticated, as obtaining a fast, stable and scalable Rails application requires some webserver configuration.
But now, even the deployment of webapps has become dead simple – if you use the brand new Google App Engine. You just develop your application in python using Google API and deploy it with a single click – hosted on Google’s infrastrcture. I think this is an excellent service when it comes to rather simple web applications.

Die Erste Post
Howdy. Willkommen in meinem Blog. Nach 4 Jahren Abstinenz entscheide ich mich wieder fuer das Bloggen. Ich habe das Gefuehl, es gibt etwas zu erzaehlen was euch interessieren koennte. Und damit meine ich kein Blog ueber Leute die in ihrem Blog ueber andere Blogger bloggen…
Es wird Tipps und meine Meinung zu Themen wie Technik, Wissenschaft, Lifehacking, Politik und Lokalem geben. Die Eintraege werden zu einem grossen Teil auf Englisch verfasst. Persoenliches und Deutschland-spezifische Themen sind auf deutsch. Viel Spass beim Lesen.
